Sheffield is the UK’s fourth largest city. Centrally located, it is within easy reach of Manchester, Leeds and Nottingham. The city itself is a natural amphitheatre created by its seven distinct hills and is situated at the confluence of five rivers, Don, Sheaf, Rivelin, Loxley and Porter.
A third of Sheffield lies within Britain’s first national park, the Peak District, which was established in 1951.
Sheffield is well connected with good links to the rest of the country by road, air and rail. There are two major motorways accessible from the city - the M1 and M18 - a high speed train link direct to London and Robin Hood Airport lies 18 miles from the city centre.
40 European cities are within a three hour direct flight time of Sheffield.
Sheffield has successfully transformed or adapted much of its industrial environment and the city is one of the greenest in England with more trees per person (more than two million in total) than any other city in Europe.

Sheffield has two world-class education institutions - The University of Sheffield and Hallam University. With more than 50,000 students and 10,000 staff, the universities not only provide research and expertise to the working environment, they also add to the vibrancy and colour of the city. The University of Sheffield's history stretches back to 1828, when the Sheffield School of Medicine
was founded.
The Materials and Engineering Research Institute at Sheffield Hallam, along with Carrs of Sheffield, have created a 'Stainless silver' called 'Lustre Silver' that keeps its shine and colour intact.
Sheffield is home to a host of exceptional cultural facilities including Ponds Forge, the English Institute of Sport, Don Valley Stadium, Hallam FM Arena, the Millennium Galleries and the Crucible Theatre. The city has a diverse music scene which has produced acts such as Joe Cocker, Human League, ABC, Def Leppard, Pulp and the Arctic Monkeys. Sheffield has two top football teams, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday.
In 1857 a group of cricketers formed the world's first official football club, Sheffield F.C. the second oldest club side in the world is also from Sheffield - Hallam FC.
