Sevenstone - Key Facts

The enabling works started in March 2006 and are due for completion at the end of November 2007
Construction of phase one is due to begin in 2008
This phase will include the demolition of the South Yorkshire
Fire and Rescue Headquarters and the construction of the flagship John Lewis store
Phase one is due to be completed in 2011
Work on phase two will then begin, with the scheme due for completion in 2013

Location

Sevenstone will be located to the west of Pinstone Street, between Barkers Pool and Moorhead. It will cover a 20-acre site, create 860,000ft² of prime retail space and will involve a major re-design of the heart of Sheffield. A 260,000ft² flagship John Lewis department store will be relocated to the corner of Carver Street and Wellington Street.

A new curved street will be created by realigning Burgess Street to create a new two level street linking Barkers Pool to Moorhead - this is to be named New Burgess Street.

When complete, Sevenstone will create a high quality, diverse and stimulating city centre environment with leading architecture
and design.

Phases

Sevenstone will be constructed in two phases to allow for the seamless transition of John Lewis from its existing city centre location to its new flagship store.

The first phase will include the multi storey car park, John Lewis, the central retail area incorporating more than 60 shops and
150 apartments.

The second phase will be the redevelopment of the existing John Lewis shop to form New Burgess Street and will include a further 50 shops and additional city living.
